The menopause is when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels. It usually happens to women between the ages of 45 and 55 after 12 consecutive months without a period. But it can happen earlier or later, depending on your genes and lifestyle.
Perimenopause is the time leading up to menopause. During this time, your body starts to produce less of the hormones estrogen and progesterone.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
The main medical treatment for menopausal symptoms is hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which replaces the hormones your body produces naturally. Other treatments are available if HRT is not an option.
Testosterone Start Guide & Consultations
As oestrogen and progesterone levels decrease during menopause, it's common for women to experience a drop in testosterone levels. This decrease in testosterone can lead to a number of symptoms. These include lower libido, reduced energy, mood swings and muscle and bone mass changes.
Endometriosis is a common chronic condition that affects women of reproductive age. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus. This tissue can grow on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, and other pelvic organs.
Endometriosis Saliva Test
Ziwig Endotest® is a non-invasive, saliva-based diagnostic test for endometriosis that can help you get a diagnosis in just a few days. The test has been validated by one of the largest clinical trials for endometriosis and has a diagnostic accuracy of over 95%. If you are experiencing symptoms of endometriosis, talk to our gynaecologist.
Gynaecology Ultrasound Scans
Our sonographer provides a clinical and diagnostic service of high quality to women who have concerns about their gynaecological health.
Understand the cause of your symptoms
The ultrasound scan provides helpful information about the possible causes of unexplained pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding, including the identification of fibroids, polyps, measuring the thickness of the endometrium. In most cases, you will be reassured that the scan is normal, and your UniClinic clinician will discuss the results with you and recommend a treatment plan if necessary. In some cases, the scan results may require further tests, investigations and treatment.
Common conditions where ultrasound may help
We may recommend specific blood tests to improve our understanding of your hormones and your health. Blood tests can be booked separately or as part of your consultation with your gynaecologist. Blood test results are usually available within a few days.
